The Athenaeum Luxury Apartments, Mayfair – Review

There are many gleaming examples of top luxury locations in Central London, especially in the Mayfair and Park Lane area. However, the Athenaeum apartments really stand out for me as one of the best.

The apartments offer the upmost in private five star luxury and they do so with aplomb. There are 18 available and they are available for either short or longer visits. Each apartment is accessible via one of three stunning Victorian Mayfair town houses and can be found just a stone`s throw away from Hyde Park. They are also very close to tube links and of course taxis can be organised with the Concierge. Not a part of the Athenaeum hotel itself, but the apartments carry all of the hallmarks of class and elegance that you would expect from the iconic hotel.

On initial impressions the Apartments are just right in size; not overwhelmingly large for a short stay, but not too small for the slightly longer visit. Some places claim to offer ample space for a longer visit and simply don`t fit the bill, but there is plenty of space to be had here. They also lend themselves to being flexible and make ideal spaces for family and business trips alike.

The décor is charming and has a relatively understated elegance which befits the Victorian feel. Furthermore, I would like to say that I felt comfortable and at home here – I wish we could have stayed longer. In short, the Apartments walk the balance between high class luxury and comfort very, very well indeed.

As you would expect, there are a number of flourishes and additions to your stay at the Athenaeum apartments; such as complimentary soft drinks and snack from the minibar, a fabulous Bose sound system, complimentary Wi-Fi and a Nespresso machine to get those early mornings going. You also have a fully functioning kitchen, should you wish to whip up a culinary storm.

If you find yourself hungry and you don`t fancy eating in, then you can make your way to the hotel`s own restaurant, where you can sample some beautiful modern British dishes and a glass of wine.

Or, if that isn`t for you, then you can grab a glass of tipple at the hotel`s stunning Whiskey Bar. At the heart of the Whiskey Bar`s set of tricks is a list of over 270 world class Whiskey`s. In one sitting you can travel from the Scottish Highlands all the way to Japan – what a truly special collection! But fear not, the bar also serves champagne, cocktails and even fruit smoothies, so you will easily be able to find your drink of choice to kick back and relax with.

Aside, from the great dining and drinking options open to visitors of the Apartments, you can also make use of The Athenaeum`s spa. The spa is the perfect way to relax after a busy day shopping in the city or a night out on the town. Unwind in the relaxation room, sit in the hot tub or the steam room, or enjoy the brand new wet area or book a private treatment. Just so you know, Spa treatments can be booked Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8.30am to 5.30pm, however, these are billable extras. It certainly washed away our cobwebs and led into a great Sunday afternoon.

It`s a great luxury to have these five star amenities on hand, as well as the luxury and privacy of the Apartment accommodation. For me, if you are looking for a family friendly, private destination this Christmas or New Year, then you can`t beat these apartments.
