Eden Mill 2022 Art Of St Andrews Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Established in 2012, Eden Mill distillery, which calls St Andrews home, has expanded its premium spirit portfolio across a unique selection of gins and whiskies, combining traditional distilling techniques. Eden Mill are focused on minimising their carbon footprint whilst producing the finest product.

Their latest creation, and with a limited run of just 3,000 bottles, is Eden Mill’s 2022 Art Of St Andrews Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch. This year, the brand selected local artist, Mairi Clark, to create this vividly colourful design across the beautifully presented whisky box. The artwork reflects the landscape and flavours of Eden Mill’s iconic coastal hometown, in particular, the dramatic St Andrews coast.

Worth pointing out is the bright point in the horizon of the design, which depicts the new Eden Mill distillery, currently under construction on the banks of the Eden Estuary, and due to open in early 2024.

In the brand’s words: “Mairi’s artwork perfectly echoes the marriage of flavours in this year’s limited edition St Andrews whisky expression: which is a sweet yet subtly spicy whisky, that brings a rush of sherry and apple notes underpinned by a toasty, buttery nuttiness and zesty bitters”.

If you can pull your gaze away from the creative packaging artwork for a moment, you’ll find a beautifully presented whisky inside. This liquid is cask matured in a mix of bourbon, Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks, and has a powerful ABV of 46.5%.

As you can imagine with the selection of casks for maturation, on the nose you get an immediate sweet, yet subtly blend of spicy notes.

On the palate, expect vanilla and those sweet sherry notes alongside an earthy nuttiness with toasted barley.

To finish, this is rich, creamy and long lasting.

I absolutely love Eden Mill 2022, a really special dram for sure. Personally, I wouldn’t add water, it’s to my taste and therefore I’d suggest enjoying straight up on the rocks.

As you’d expect with only a 3,000 bottle run, this liquid gold isn’t for the faint hearted at £150, but for the serious whisky buff or collector, this is a thing of beauty, guaranteed to brighten up your collection, or to be enjoyed with every sip.

If you are strong willed enough to avoid opening, expect its value to grow, exponentially. If 2021’s release is anything to go by, its 800 bottle limit sold out in no time, with excellent reviews.
