De Kooning and Lalanne Sheep go to Bonhams New York

Art collectors are waiting with baited breath for this mornings November 10th Bonhams auction in New York.

The sale includes modern figures such as Willem de Kooning, James Rosenquist, Henry Matisse, Lynn Chadwick, Alexander Calder and James Turrell.

Amongst the most prized lots in the sale is a 1965 piece by Willem de Kooning. Titled Woman in a Landscape, the painting is an oil on paper laid on panel. The painting is estimated at $400,000/$600,000.

A favourite of mine – a Henri Matisse piece of ink line drawing is expected to generate feverish interest.

Most intriguing is – Two of Franǟ¶õois-Xavier Lalanne`s iconic sheep sculptures. Made of bronze and concrete, the surrealist sheep sculptures are to be sold as two separate lots of $40/60,000 and $20/30,000.
