A Truly Special Whisky For A Special Evening

Tonight is Burns Night, a night that celebrates all things Scottish; haggis, cock-a-leekie soup, poetry and, of course, whisky. Named after the legendary 19th Century bard Rabbie Burns, the evening is a culmination of many traditions and is a firm fixture in the Scottish calendar. All across the land there will be delicious haggis suppers being prepared and poetry books de-shelved, primed for recital, with family and friends gathering together to celebrate their heritage.

One crucial component of this time-honoured event is one of Scotland’s most famous products, whisky. Scotch whisky is renowned all the world over as the very pinnacle of the industry, and here at Lussorian we have a recommendation for the perfect accompaniment to your celebratory evening.

The northernmost distillery in Scotland, Highland Park has been producing its fine whiskies since 1798 in Kirkwall on Orkney and has become synonymous with quality and tradition. Their 18-year-old single malt is one such whisky, with its fine notes of marzipan, golden syrup and dried fruits, and the distinctive floral, smoky finish we have come to expect from the distillers.

Whilst pricier (around £99 per 70cl) than some of their other contemporaries and indeed their 12 year old and Dark Origins lines, fine whiskies both, the 18 year old brings something special to the table and befits an occasion like Burns Night perfectly, whether it be as a warming dram at the close of the evening, or as a gift for someone truly special.
