The Summer Bistrot Box (£50) road test

Inspired by the season and great flavours, this menu was a real hit in our kitchen. The starter of orange and fennel pollen cured salmon was sublime. Fresh, vibrant and light, it really was superb. Alongside the cured salmon, soused beetroot purée, compressed cucumber and baby sorrel were also a part of the ensemble. Each element elevating the dish and giving it a really “restaurant” feel. The combination of compressed cucumber, sweetness from the beetroot and salmon working to achieve a balanced but exciting treat for the tongue. Plus, you also get a French Baguette to enjoy alongside.

The main saw us sear and prepare two delicious marinated lamb rumps. After a very short time in the oven, it was pink and succulent. It was then partnered with boulangere potatoes and minted greens for that French feel. All of this was wonderfully bound together by a deep, red wine jus. Another dish and another big tick from us.

Finishing off, was a surprisingly light dessert of white chocolate and mango mousse, with Amoretti and almond granola. Once again, summery, vibrant and bursting with flavour.

A restaurant box with finesse, generious portions and just enough work in the kitchen to make it fun, without being a chore. We highly recommend Bistrot at Home.
