The Winchester Hotel & Spa Review

One of the most endearing and exciting elements of a weekend away is travelling to areas with fantastic history, stories and a wealth of interest sights and sounds. Fortunately, Winchester, in Hampshire, has this in abundance.

We were very excited to have the opportunity of visiting Winchester last month, and to visit the aptly named Winchester Hotel & Spa. The Winchester Hotel and Spa is located just off the top of Winchester’s beautiful and historical high street. A four star hotel with spa, brasserie and a range of other features, we were excited to see what was on offer.

Sleep and relax

The hotel has just under 100 rooms to offer and is modern in sttle. Each room offers air conditioning (handy for the last couple of months, I would imagine), flatscreen TVs and complimentary Wi-FI. We found the room to be comfortable and just edging on the right side of luxury, but not quite leaping into the realms of total lavishness.

All in all, this was what you would expect from a modern 4-star hotel; no bells or whistles, just comfort, cleanliness and functionality. I would consider a slight upgrade on the standard room for something a little more spacious and comfortable.

In addition, hotel residents (who are a minimum age of 13 years and above) have full complimentary use of the Health Club, featuring a small pool, pool-side loungers for relaxing, Swedish sauna, aromatic steam room, jacuzzi and a fully-equipped fitness centre (minimum age 16 yrs) with a wide selection of aerobic, weight and cardio machines.

Spa

An added treat to your stay at the Winchester Hotel is the onsite spa with pool, treatment rooms and more. Pamper yourself with their wide range of holistic and beauty therapies in one of the inviting treatment rooms. They also feature a comfortable spa relaxation lounge for exclusive use by our Spa guests when taking treatments.

The spa is also proud to work closely with leading brands such as ESPA, Jessica Nails. Mii make up and more to offer world leading advice in all fields.

The Spa is complemented by a small relaxation pool, poolside lounging area, Swedish sauna, aromatic steam room and Jacuzzi.

Dining

Sitting down in the comfort of the outdoor area of Gershwin’s Bar and taking the last rays of Summer Sun, it was a lovely place to enjoy a bottle of chilled Prosecco (£20).

Following our brief drink before the meal, we were ushered into the Hutton’s Brasserie to begin our meal. Inclusive with our stay, we were entitled to a £25 credit per person towards our meal. The brasserie was nicely lit, with a dark and relaxed ambiance. Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful too. All in all, the setting, feel and vibe of the brasserie was just right for a candle lit dinner. The restaurant offers modern European food, combined with seasonal produce and a deft touch.

A real highlight for me was the Rump of lamb, with Jersey Royal new potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli and a mint jus. Tender, succulent and full of rich flavour, the lamb melted in the mouth. Simply delicious. My partner opted for the slightly safer option of a Sirloin Steak, with Peppercorn sauce and chips. Once again, cooked beautifully, full of flavour and a real treat. We couldn’t fault the mains at Hutton’s and would certainly consider returning as a result.

For those with a sweet tooth, there was also a gorgeous selection of desserts to get stuck in to. For example the warm chocolate brownie oozed with indulgent flavour. Plus, it worked very well with the accompanying  salted toffee sauce and peanut butter ice cream. All in all, dinner was wonderful, the atmosphere excellent and the overall dining experience one we would like to repeat.

The best thing is, you can enjoy a One Night Break with Dinner at The Winchester Hotel for only £199 from https://www.buyagift.co.uk/.
