Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa Reviewed

Overlooking Ocean Village (Southampton) and the marina you will now find the stunning, super-yacht inspired Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa. The awe-inspiring design is comprised of contemporary flourishes from the exterior, with rooftop bar and over 85 luxury bedrooms within.

This addition to the marina is both a wonderful and welcome addition to this up and coming Solent hotspot. Quite simply, the Southampton Harbour Hotel epitomises luxury, style and panache. A sublime destination.

Rooms with world class views

Home to 85 luxury bedrooms, the Southampton Harbour Hotel’s trump card is breathtaking views of the marina. Breathtakingly lit up at night, the marina provides a captivating backdrop to your stay and views can be enjoyed from multiple points in the hotel.

However, we were lucky enough to enjoy one of two Marina Penthouse Suites, which provide full 180 degree views of the marina. A panoramic treat, the views are vast and to die for.

Retreating from the views, the décor, style and finish of the suite was also sublime. Vast in size, the spacious living and dining areas draw slightly on the nautical influences of the area, whilst also providing a touch of luxury, thanks to the finest Egyptian cotton sheets, multiple flat screen TVs, complimentary gin & sherry and a five-star finish. The bathroom also offers a wealth of space, a generous waterfall shower and a large tub in which to soak. Of course, there is also The White Company toiletries to add that extra layer of opulence. Quite simply, this is one of the most luxurious hotel’s in the area and the experience is an accomplished one, therefore showing the hotel group’s knowledge in delivering a top standard stay with razor sharp precision and style.

The Jetty Restaurant is one to watch

We can sometimes be a little cautious of hotel restaurants, as they can sometimes let even the finest accommodation down and they can often be an overpriced offering. Fortunately, The Jetty Restaurant avoids these pitfalls and delivers a fine dining experience of the highest order. Plus, should the weather be suitable, the stunning outdoor space allows you to dine with a view of the marina.

This elegant dining space focuses on exhibiting the finest local, sustainable and season ingredients. Drawing on local seafood, the menu is an ever-changing showcase of fresh catches and classic European flavours. To begin the meal I opted for Gin Cured Chalk Stream Trout, cured with Pothecary gin and accompanied by deep fried capers, sour cream. The delicate trout had been perfectly smoked, giving it a hint of the gin and yet not overpowering it. Deep fried capers adding a dash of texture for a well-rounded dish.

The mains however were where the menu really came alive. The Jetty Mix Fish Grill bought together a trio of South Coast fish and shellfish (such as clams and mussels) served on the bone with fennel, tomato, herbs and garlic, seaweed mayonnaise. A seafood lover’s dream, this is how fresh seafood should be executed and presented. An exquisite journey for the palate.

To finish, the charming “Oops I dropped my ice cream” (which resembled a Cornetto that had been dropped in the sand) offered a smile and wonderful salted caramel flavours.

All in all, the setting of the meal, the stunning service and exquisite food certainly marked The Jetty Restaurant as one we will have to return to. Be sure also to try the HarBAR on 6th, a rooftop bar with panoramic views and a tantalising cocktail menu.

Find harmony in the HarSPA

Guests (and non-guests) also have the contemporary and modern HarSPA onsite, where the only thing on the menu is utter pampering and relaxation. Complete with seven treatment rooms, including a mud room (where mineral rich mud, heat and steam create a truly immersive spa experience) and an extensive range of treatments. Sleek, well-equipped and everything a spa should be.

We were lucky enough to try a couple of treatments during our visit. One special treatment, which you may not find very often elsewhere, was the Bamboo massage. Available in either 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions, the treatment is an innovative alternative to Swedish or deep tissue massaging. Designed to relax the body and to release stress within the muscles, this unique treatment worked wonders for me. Wonderfully enjoyable and expertly orchestrated by our masseuse Rachel.
