Tuddenham Mill review

After battling through tiresome traffic jams on London’s M25 motorway, I was hoping that the Tuddenham Mill review would provide quiet sanctuary for a weary traveller. It delivered on this and a lot more.

Situated within 12 acres of peaceful Suffolk countryside, this converted water mill blends high spec accommodation, good food and excellent service into one unique offer.

It’s also the little touches and attention to detail which make Tuddenham Mill an ideal location to recharge the batteries. Things like:-

The bedroom

image

- We stayed in “Loft West” which was beautifully styled in clean contemporary décor
- The biggest and most comfortable bean bag known to man – where can I buy one of these bad boys?
- An enormous egg shell bath that doubles up as a delightful viewing position for the wall fastened, but adjustable Loewe flat screen TV
- Luxurious Jo Malone toiletries which didn’t mean a great deal to me, but which my wife enthused about for days afterwards. We were encouraged to take these home, which is a nice touch, considering the guilty feeling I always have when liberating the usual, hotel provided sewing kit – is that just me!
- The bed was spacious and incredibly comfortable. A judgement not made lightly considering my back’s hyper sensitivity to poorly conceived mattresses
- A small optical scope is provided by the window for observing local wildlife
- A nip of sloe gin is perched on the bed side table, to help with insomnia no doubt!
- Home made biscuits and melt in the mouth fudge – perfect with a cup of tea

The surroundings

- The mill pond is a delightful place to sup a drink or two while the sun falls below the horizon
- Blue and purple lights from the mill, project out over the water’s surface giving this spot a romantic quality
- Long walks in the local countryside or a spot of Boule are a nice distraction

Supper

image

- The restaurant is exposed beams meets contemporary rustic chic
- A range of delightful and locally sourced dishes pepper the menu
- I highly recommend the cracked Cromer crab claws followed by Sirloin steak and thick cut chips – delicious
- Banana Tartin for dessert was not something I have had before, but would happily go back for seconds
- There’s even a low ceilinged table for the jockeys who visit from Newmarket races. Maybe catch some hot tips from careless dinner talk…..

Breakfast

- The Mill breakfast was vast and superb in equal measure
- If you like marmalade ( I do, a lot…) there is quite frankly the finest marmalade in the world on offer here.  Syrupy, tangy and no bitterness – a real delight.

Service

- Attentive and helpful staff at every turn
