The Inn at Fossebridge, Cotswolds – Review
The Cotswolds has a special place in my heart. To me it’s what England is all about, classic Georgian manners, picture postcard villages and more green countryside than you can shake a stick at, not to mention that it’s not to far from retail discount outlet Bicester Village… bliss!
We recently went to review The Inn at Fossebridge, situated at Fossebridge (between Cirencester and Northleach), which is a quaint country hotel with a fascinating 300 year history. Originally a coaching inn, the hotel was further added to in Georgian times, whilst retaining its original coaching inn features, which is now the main restaurant and bar.
The hotel offers affordable charm with an extremely relaxed atmosphere. It’s a little like stepping back in time (which is a good thing) to the days of Downton Abbey, a fascinating and very comfortable experience. Our room was called The Fossebridge and was a Deluxe 4 Poster King, En Suite Bathroom, Lake and Garden View, which was delightful.
There are 9 individual rooms, from £125 per night. Our room was incredibly comfortable and had everything we could have needed; the garden view was a bonus!
The food was also good. We had read some relatively negative reviews on TripAdvisor, however we had absolutely no complaint here. A cross between fine dining and good old fashioned hearty pub grub, the menu is bustling with both seafood and meat selections. We started with a delicious potted crab as well as a fantastic duck egg/Scotch Egg (amazing!) and then moved onto a sirloin steak and lamb Rogan Josh (one of the finest yet). The only down side was that we simply had no room for desert! In terms of food pricing, very reasonable and comparable to many gastro pubs.
Overall we found Fossebridge very friendly and filled with charm. Don’t expect a luxury boutique hotel, it isn’t. Expect a quaint, historical, comfortable country retreat with a friendly B & B atmosphere that is reasonably priced.
