The Balé, Luxury Retreat in Nusa Dua Bali Review
They say that Bali is the ‘land of a thousand smiles’ – 999 of which we used up at the fantastically luxurious and exclusive The Balé, Nusa Dua. The only frown amongst all of these smiles of delight was when we reluctantly had to leave. It is difficult for us to accurately reflect the quality, tranquillity and serenity of this resort without descending into a whole myriad of superlatives. Perhaps it can best be described simply as ‘a total paradise on earth’. After 38 years of happy marriage my wife wanted us to get divorced and then remarried immediately so that we could spend a honeymoon at The Balé! As you lie in your personal infinity swimming pool in front of your own pavilion, shrouded in fragrant frangipani and dwarfed by giant flame trees, with soothing Balinese music echoing from your own high quality sound system, you cannot fail to be immersed in and inspired by one of the most beautiful and romantic retreats in the whole world.
Upon arrival you are struck by the synergy of the ultra modern and traditional Balinese design of the facility. Modern white walled courtyards and refreshing water pools provide an aesthetic contrast to the traditional Balinese thatched roof villas. Check-in procedures are conducted in your pavilion by a butler, who also guides you through the amazing facilities available in your room. With Balinese music already playing, a refreshing welcome drink chilling in the fridge, along with several complimentary soft drinks and juices, we were invited to enjoy a complimentary leg or shoulder massage within our own enclosed garden. Our pavilion had every conceivable modern appliance including a huge flat screen TV, stereo unit and DVD player and complimentary WiFi . The lavish bathroom area exuded an aura of peace and tranquillity with its sunken bath adorned with candles set amidst floating petals and a beautifully fragranced oil burner. It has a choice of inside and outside hot showers, two ample sized wash basins and an extensive range of toiletries featuring a selection of fragrances.

There is an air of peace and serenity throughout the whole hotel with the high walls surrounding each villa providing individual privacy and security. Children less than 16 years of age are not catered for so a quiet and peaceful ethos is guaranteed at all times. The Balé refers to all staff as ‘our family’ and this is very evident in the quality and friendliness extended to us at all times. Their enthusiasm and obvious respect for each other was a refreshing feature as was the fact that every member of staff seemed to know our names and greeted us with huge Balinese smiles.
Other outstanding facilities available in the resort include a holistic spa, an extensively equipped gymnasium, library, gift shop, meeting room and an intimate restaurant called ’Faces.’ The executive chef conjures up a huge array of delicious cuisine, satisfying even the most discerning, health conscious diner. We were ‘blown away’ by the quality of the à la carte breakfast that we enjoyed. Guests are entitled to complementary transfers to and from The Balé’s private beach club and to the nearby Bali Collection, an ideal and interesting arrangement of shops and restaurants.

A stay at The Balé is a unique sensual experience set in the most beautiful and serene location on the stunning island of Bali. It is without doubt a diamond jewel of the Orient which will revitalize and rejuvenate your body and soul leaving you, like us, desperate to return.
