Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a boat….

The ultimate luxury lifestyle accessory this summer has to be one of Ferretti Group’s so called ‘super yachts’.

Straight out of a Bond film these opulent high performance vessels are constantly being re-invented, developed and improved by designers in pursuit of yachting perfection.

This month was no exception in the race to rule the waves as shipyard CRN (part of Ferretti) held the launch of their new range entitled ‘Dislopen’ at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge. They showcased models and glossy images of stylish steel and aluminium machines as long as 62 metres in length (!) invented by gifted Italian architects Gianni and Paola Zuccon of Studio Zuccon.

Everything had been taken into consideration, owners of a CRN ship can switch from swimming pools to sundecks, sip cocktails on sofa beds whilst taking in incredible sea views- and when it all gets too much they can retire to an exquisitely furnished bedroom suite.

Most customers can expect their own helicopter pad, cinema hall, gym, solarium and even a ‘real beach’ where the back opens up to allow clients greater access to the sea.

Not everyone at the launch was quite able to write the designers a cheque so made up for it by sitting down to an exclusive champagne lunch courtesy of CRN overlooking Hyde Park where the brand’s manager revealed why they were so excited about these particular new designs:

“This new project demonstrates how we’ve ‘listened out’ to our clients needs - fundamental to the niche yacht market, this modern range is unique in our industry.”

The architect Gianni Zuccon went on to explain: “Dislopen defines itself by its name - onboard living with particular attention to both individual and common spaces and attention to the dynamics existing between the external and the internal spaces.”

All very lofty sounding stuff, for me the images spoke for themselves, lottery winner look no further for the jet set lifestyle, 2011 is all about big swanky super yachts……
