Retailing for a staggering £1,500 ($2,250 approx) the Solar Ski Jacket from Zegna Sports isn’t cheap - but it is damn handy on the slopes.

The design combines sports comfort with the needs of the modern skier. The solar capture capability of this jacket enables mobile phones, ipods, iphones and other handheld communication devices to be charged up on the move, in an eco friendly way.

Zegna say:

“Designed for the active alpine adventurer and to combat the growing uncertainties of climate change, the ‘Solar Ski Jacket’ recharges in a green, clean and environmentally friendly manner.
Solar cells are mounted on a neoprene collar, which directly convert solar light into a sustainable and renewable energy; whilst electronic textile wires distribute the power to a rechargeable battery, or directly to your phone or other device.

Only four to five hours of direct sunlight is required to fully charge the rechargeable battery, situated in a hidden inside pocket or housed in a separate neoprene case.  The battery element and solar panel collar are both detachable, which allows for independent devices to be recharged, even when the jacket is not being worn.”
