With all the hullabaloo surrounding the new James Bond film it’s hardly surprising that all things 007 related are receiving their fair share of exposure.

Goat Island off the Island of Tobago is no exception.

According to Luxury Real Estate:

“This island is intricately entwined with the birth of the story of James Bond. Ian Fleming the former owner of the island dreamed up the story of James Bond while spending his time here and at his property “Goldeneye” in Jamaica. Fleming and the James Bond novels made private islands almost synonymous with evil geniuses bent on world destruction, and although his home was well known, Fleming used this as his own secret hideaway while writing his books. After all, what better place to dream of the Evil Dr. No’s island of Crab Key than on your own private island?”

Aside from the famous pedigree, the island obviously offers a wonderful level of privacy and much more besides:-

The island is approximately 1 mile from the nearby small town, and is being sold with a boathouse parcel comprising 5,598 sq. ft, in the town.

After taking one’s private boat from the town, you access the island by means of a stone and concrete pier. The pier leads up to a red tiled staircase flanked by two statuesque coconut palms which frame the entrance to the large loggia at the front of the house.

The Loggia overlooks the ocean and surrounding islands, and small sandy beach is just below where one can take morning dips in the ocean. Ian Fleming’s morning ritual while he was writing his novels was to wake at sunrise and go snorkelling for an hour before returning to an English breakfast which he ate on the Loggia while overlooking the ocean.

The Main House is a 2 story West Indian style villa, yellow walls with blue details. The lower level has a Sitting Room, Dining Room, Large Kitchen, Laundry, Bathroom, and Recreation Area. The upper level contains 3 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. All have superb ocean views, ideal for entertaining friends.

There are also 2 apartments each with a single bedroom and ensuite bathroom, situated on the hill above the house facing the ocean.

The property is generator powered and 35,000 gallon water storage tank under the Main House.

Since being placed on the market some eight months ago at $3,000,000, it is believed that the likes of Sir Richard Branson and Donald Trump have cast their eye over the particulars.
