I must admit to being a Champagne snob. The theatre of the packaging, the history and the subtle marketing have done their work on me!

Nonetheless, I am slowly coming round to the alternatives. One of theme being Codorniu Reina Maria Cristina Reserva Vintage 2006 which is a sparkling wine that I sampled just before Christmas and it impressed me enough to go out and buy a few bottles for a party that I was having.
This particular cuvée was originally created to honour the Regent Queen Maria Cristina of Spain, who in 1897 granted Codorníu the title of ‘purveyor to the Spanish Royal Household’’ and has been aged for at least fifteen months to develop a complex and elegant character.
Described as “a uniquely delicate blend with complex biscuity aromas and a smooth, fresh finish.” I would simply describe it as a crisp and fresh alcoholic beverage!
It should be considered as an ideal apertif or a good accompaniment to white fish and shellfish, such as lobster and prawns.
