For the caviar connoisseur there really is no substitute for the world’s most expensive fish product called Almas. This unique delicacy which means diamond in Russian retails for a staggering £25,000 per kg.

Why so much? Well, as if the humble Sturgeon isn’t rare enough, Almas is obtained from 100 year old albino Sturgeon in the Caspian Sea and as you might gather there aren’t many of those about.

Unsurprisingly, it’s not widely available and in fact the only outlet we are aware of is the Caviar House & Prunier in London’s Picadilly which is allegedly the site of the most expensive meal in Britain which included, you guessed it Almas caviar.

The proprietors are quoted on the Guardian as saying “It was two ladies who came in one afternoon. They ordered Almas caviar.” However, if you’re thinking of turning up unannounced then you should be aware that the restaurant only order four or five 1.8 kilo tins a year and that is already sold four years ahead!
