In a recently released book by Pierre Kohler (a respected French Science author) it has emerged that sex experiments took place on the 1996 Space Shuttle mission. The mechanics of sex in zero gravity were of particular interest to scientists given the likelyhood of ever longer missions.

image

The book “The Final Mission: Mir The Human Adventure” claims that the experiments were carried out in preparation for married couples spending time on the International Space Station.

A confidential NASA report on a space shuttle mission in 1996 is cited as hard evidence of these experiments. The project was codenamed STS-XX - and was designed to explore sexual positions in zero gravity. 10 positions were tested, with only 4 found to be viable without mechanical assistance. At a wild guess, I imagine the missionary position might be a non starter....

In terms of value for money - each space shuttle mission costs $450 million - according to NASA official figures. That works out at $112.5 million per position! Cheap at the price.... maybe not!

According to the BBC - Leona Helmsley an eccentric New York billionaire decided to leave her dog named Trouble, a staggering $12m (£5.8m).

The dog’s trust fund is managed by John Codey who recently told US television network CBS that Trouble costs for medical care, security, meals, grooming etc amount to $300,000 (£145,000) per annum.

Unfortunately, the media spotlight on Trouble has attracted a number of death threats.

It sounds like Trouble has a rather apt name....!!

Renowned designer Moritz Waldemeyer has come up with some amazing chairs that respond to the colour of a user’s outfit, projecting an aura of matching coloured light around the chair. Waldemeyer’s aim is to turn furnishings and furniture into interactive fun.

image

He says:

“This new creation is a piece of furniture that interacts with what you wear changing the atmosphere and space around it. A sensor in the back of the chair reads the colour of the clothing and projects it on to the surface behind using LED lighting. This gives the individual sitting on it their own halo of light, evoking images of religious icons and kings.”

Moritz Waldemeyer’s By Royal Appointment chairs retail from £9,998 ($20,000).
