This July (2008) Ancienne Ambiance will be releasing their stunning Hadrian & Antinoos limited edition scented candles. Inspired by Hadrians Conflict & Empire (and the launch of the unprecedented British Museum exhibition), this set is both stylish, contemporary and makes for a perfect gift.

Here’s a quick history lesson: Hadrian’s empire ruled much of Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East and, although a ruthless leader, he had a great passion for the arts, architecture and Greek culture. His relationship with much loved partner Antinoos is perhaps the most famous male union in ancient history.  Antinoos accompanied him on his travels all around the empire and after he drowned in mysterious circumstances, Hadrian was so consumed with grief that he had Antinoos declared a God, founded the city of Antinoopolis close to where he died and erected many statues and busts of the deified youth.

Firebox are offering all wealthy individuals with £150,000 ($300,000) the opportunity to commission their very own waxwork likeness. I can’t say it even vaguely appeals to me but what ever pulls your chain I guess....

Firebox say:

“Due to the talent, expertise and quality of the sculptors each figure takes four months to create from start to finish. The art of creating a figure involves many people and commences with a sitting where all exact measurements such as pose, expression, height, hair and eye colours are taken. The package for your own wax figure includes all sittings, a photograph album and DVD of the whole process, transport and set-up of the finished figure in the location of your choice.”

Umm, walking down the street with my child in a gold plated pram would only fill me with fear. Unless you have a coterie of body guards, surely you’re asking for trouble?

image

Anyway, some lucky person recently splashed out £6000 ($12,000) on this blingtastic pram. It includes gold plate exterior, fitted sound system and satin interior. The hood comprises soft ermine with the base even incorporating a clockwork music box. I’m sure it will make you a cup of coffee if asked....

It was created by Graham Richardson and Alison Murfet, who operate a pram restoring business in Lincolnshire.
