The Green House bills itself as the “UK’s Greenest Hotel”. A very worthy moniker, for sure, but one more synonymous in my mind with eco light bulbs and recycling boxes than sumptuousness and style. But how wrong could I be! After a trip to Bournemouth last weekend, I have discovered that The Green House is a hotel that combines an effortless luxury with a real minimal impact on the environment.
The hotel interior features British designed and made wallpapers - printed with vegetable ink, pure wool fabrics which have been woven on the Isle of Bute, sumptuous organic goose down duvets and solid hard wood furniture which is either recycled or hand crafted in the UK from fallen trees damaged through storms or disease. The staff are all incredibly knowledgeable about the ethos of the hotel and our guide, Marcus Bell, gave us a tour with the kind of enthusiasm and knowledge that would make The Green Party proud.

May gardens are full of English roses right now signalling the start of the Chelsea flower show. It’s alive and blooming until the 29th May and I’ve been lucky enough to view the stunning Laurent Perrier garden by award winning designer Tom Stuart Smith.
He’s teamed up with architect Jamie Fobert to create an elegant and sophisticated space, which perfectly suits a summery Champagne soiree. Jamie ‘s stunning bronze pavilion is composed of folded copper sheets that overlook Tom’s woodland flora. The show garden is a vision of modern sophistication and well worth a visit; in fact it’s just been awarded a gold medal!

These days you need to head east and for all that is truly trendy in London living & fine fining. When artists and architects migrated to the city for more space and lower rent rather predictably so did media land - which is how EC1 became founder of the modern gastro pub, the vintage fashion fair and the home of contemporary design.
The Modern Pantry in St John’s square epitomises the spirit of this creative community. Just hop, skip and lunchtime jump from Alexander Mc Queens headquarter nestles its listed Georgian townhouse. The restaurant /café serves amazing cuisine throughout the day, it’s the perfect setting for that agency meeting or sophisticated date night. Wooden floorboards, simple furniture and soft farrow & ball muted tones lure diners into an informal sense of security- but don’t let that fool you. On closer inspection you’ll find everything is run to military perfection with sophisticated dishes all beautifully presented which considering the parentage this should come as no surprise. Anna Hansen is an award winning chef from New Zealand who’s been trailblazing the way is fusion food since the nineties. She’s impressed her peers and foodies for sometime time now and the Modern Pantry serves as a showcase for her flavoursome food.

I felt quite at home flicking through copies of Tatler in the plush waiting room that felt rather like a five star hotel with it’s cushioned sofas, open fire and high ceiling.
