Set along the banks of the River Thames and just 5 minutes from Heathrow Airport and historic (in the opposite direction), The Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel is a newly refurbished 4* hotel with a lot to offer.

The hotel has recently undergone a £20m refurbishment, which has brought it bang up to date and looking… well… rather glamorous. The refurbishment has altered the look and feel of the original hotel dramatically, providing for a cool, contemporary place for weddings, wellbeing spa treatments, business meetings or affordable stop overs with great access to London and surrounds.

The hotel consists 2 restaurants, an outdoor pool, a spa, tennis courts, plenty of meeting spaces and 180 guest rooms.

Last week I was lucky enough to dine at the glamorous 1901 dining room, situated just next to Liverpool Street

It’s the décor that hits you immediately. A majestic red brick Victorian building with a grade ii listed interior, this place oozes grandeur. Whether you find yourself seated at the marble cocktail bar, under the stained dome glass ceiling or tucked away in a candle light corner- it’s truly sumptuous.

The same can be said for the staff and the cuisine. A sommelier is on hand to take you guide you through a menu that boasts over 700 wines! Passionate and proud they know their dishes and drinks inside out and back to front.

Perched on the edge of New York’s Meat Packing District and Chelsea, The Jane represents the new breed of flashpacker hotel. The hotel doesn’t feel like the hostels we know of old – instead, it’s full of professional, young media types flitting between the cafe, lobby and bar. When I stayed, the very cool bar played host to a party, to which only the Big Apple’s young and beautiful seemed to be invited.

The former home to Chelsea sailors, the hotel once housed the survivors of the Titanic when they arrived back on dry land. Today, it has stuck with the nautical theme and The Jane boasts ‘cabins’ with a choice of a single bunk or bunk beds, all with shared bathrooms down the corridor.

I am somewhat of a curry snob it has to be said. Curries are an absolute passion of mine and I’ve had my fair share of them! However the most frustrating thing is going to an Indian restaurant, asking for a speciality dish from the chef only to find out that it tastes exactly like the other dishes that you have ordered – If I was Prime Minister this would be a criminal offence.

So when we were given the opportunity to review the o’so popular Massala restaurant in Cobham we were there like a shot!

For all those that don’t know, Cobham is situated in the fine county of Surrey, just off the A3 – perfect for commuters heading out of London heading south. The area is well known for its abundance of Chelsea football player who live around and about, and as a town, it’s rather pretty on the whole.

Massalla is just off the main high street, an easy walk wherever you park althought there is parking outside of it. When you arrive the first thing to hit you is just how busy this restaurant is… for a Wednesday night it was heaving and I’m guessing that many of the punters are locals – always a good sign!
