There’s every chance you may recognise the luxury Stoke Park in Berkshire, its history pans almost 100 years and it has been immortalised thanks to Hollywood blockbusters like Layer Cake, Notting Hill and some rather good Bond films.
Stoke Park is situated approximately 20 minutes from the M25 and just outside the city of Slough. Its imposing, mile long rolling drive (with historic golf course on either side) is just a taster of the elegance you can expect with this historically important and visually appealing luxury hotel. A stay at a hotel can be for so many different reasons –family, business, or pleasure – but whatever the occasion it is undoubtedly true that the staff and surroundings should make one feel special – and this is certainly true of the new Macdonald Windsor.
On arrival my husband and I parked our car in the very handy underground car park and were then shown to our room which overlooked Windsor high street and was large enough to sleep our whole family! Thankful however that the mother in law had agreed to keep our three little angels for the night we decided to make the most of our freedom and situated ourselves at the bar before dinner. The wine list at the hotel was truly magnificent – all wines have been specially selected by Master of Wine Beverly Tabbron according to our knowledgeable barman – and we arrived at our table slightly merrier than anticipated.

Many hotels scream, ‘try us as we will provide a unique experience!’ However I guess that few can truly live up to this claim. As you stand outside and look up at the hugely impressive Tower Club at Lebua building near to the banks of the Chao-Phraya River deep in central Bangkok, you are filled with a sense of anticipation that, if the experience lives up to the building’s potential, then you are about to witness something really special.
