Any restaurant that undergoes a sizeable building extension is doing something right, and Gaucho in Richmond is no exception. One of our favourite restaurant chains in the UK, we’ll never turn down an opportunity to review a Gaucho and the finest steak money can buy.

Gaucho Richmond is one of the latest restaurants to join the chain and is nestled bang on the riverside within an absolutely idyllic setting. The restaurant itself is glass roofed and fronted, which allows for a cracking view of the Thames, it’s ducks and some rather athletic runners and rowers pretty much wherever you sit.

Once you’ve parked up somewhere along the main road you’ll simply need to make your way down to the river and you’ll see it – just looked for the huge’ glass house’ and you’re there.

The restaurant comprises the familiar furnishings and dimmed lighting to the other Gaucho restaurants – the cow hide chairs, long bar, delicious smells and extremely friendly and welcoming staff. However, we felt that there was an absolute elegance to Gaucho Richmond that surpasses the others we have been lucky enough to review to date.

Nobu Berkeley Street have just introduced a new bar menu of cocktails that have been created specifically to compliment their cuisine. These new cocktails work to enhance the taste of their more delicate dishes, such as the sashimi and have been inspired by the dining menu’s ingredients - none of which you’d find on the average kitchen shelf! They include sake ,a variety of Japanese spirits, Jasmine tea, pickled ginger, Japanese basil and Yuzu syrup.
These new cocktails make sure that you can taste the quality of Nobu Berkeley’s food. The bar staff are trained to recommend drinks suited to your dish that will compliment the intense flavours. Nobu only uses the best Sake available, by trying this into a cocktail before sampling the food itself is a great way to get taste buds at the ready.

The £630 (approx $800) Grand Opulence Sundae is on offer at New York’s famous Serendipity 3 restaurant and is likely to be ranked as one of the most expensive puddings in the world.

Although it is a little shy of the £15,730 (approx $20,000) Frrrozen Haute Chocolate also served up at Serendipity..

The sundae has been dreamt up by one of Serendipity’s specialist chefs and is available at 48 hours notice. So get your request in early!

Joe Calderone, 48 year old spokesperson for Serendipity said:

“We produced the Grand Opulence to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2005. We wanted something to match out golden anniversary, so based our sundae around that precious metal. Each one is made with three scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla ice cream, which we infuse with Madagascar vanilla pods. The sundae is held within a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet and lined with 23 carat edible gold leaf. We drizzle in the world’s rarest and expensive chocolate Amedei Porceleana, which is harvested from Venezuela and covered in chunks of Chuao chocolate. We add candied fruits from Paris and the sundae is topped with Grand Passion Caviar, which is salt free American caviar infused with passion fruit, orange and Armagnac.”

Umm delicioussss.!

A friend of mine who works in the city wanted to celebrate his birthday with some great food in a place a little bit more special than the usual city bars but not as stupidly expensive.  I had the perfect answer- le Pont de la Tour. This famous riverside restaurant also has a brassiere section which serves delicious food and drink in a less formal set up than its main dining room. The brassiere still boasts the same fantastic views across towerbridge and has an equally impressive wine menu, it just feels a little more relaxed – so perfect a birthday treat. Also, being part of Terence Conran D&D franchise the food is guaranteed to be great, after all these are the people who turned the OXO tower in a world famous dining destination.
