Where better to celebrate Halloween than in London, steeped as it is in a rich history of hauntings and horrors. From Tower Bridge tube, my guest and I wound our hesitant way down shadowed back streets looking for an event that hopes to stamp its grisly mark on the London scene and become a legend in its own right.  Vinopolis was the venue for every self respecting ghoul looking for a good time - The Grand Halloween Ball was upon us.

Upon arrival, our coats were taken by a she devil, and I gave her my jacket wondering if I would ever see it again. We entered into a scene from Thriller; fallen angels, zombies, vampires, dungeon gimps and the grim reaper, chatted, drank and danced

Vinopolis is famous for its wines, so a quick crash course in wine tasting was on offer. In keeping with the theme, the blood -stained host gave the lesson in a dingy grotto, which made the situation somewhat surreal. Despite this, he talked us through the basics of smelling, tasting, how to hold the glass etc., just enough for the inexperienced to take with them to the tasting room and have some fun.

For the £32 entry price, each guest is entitled to sample four regular wines. There were twelve quality wines to choose from, chilling whites and bloody reds from all four corners of the wicked world. Guests are also offered two absinthe tastings, two beer tastings and a sample of an elegant Bombay Sapphire cocktail.

Vinopolis had really gone to town with the decorations, cobwebs as far as the eye can see. Lots of other visual surprises scattered around to keep on you on your toes. You could even have your fortune told by a mysterious old crone.

The only negative of the evening was the food. Toad in the hole and the vegetarian alternative really was nothing to write home about. However, I heard some other party-goers feed this back to staff so maybe it will improve next year.

The atmosphere in the ball was great fun. Fancy dress breaks down barriers and makes it easy for people to meet. The DJ helped things along nicely too, playing a mix of old and new and avoiding any frighteningly bad cheese. The ball is a must for any city dweller keen to bring out the inner devil!

This Christmas why not treat your favourite Whisky drinker to something extra special?

The limited edition bottle of 50-year-old Dalmore Candela single malt - for £7,500 from boutique whisky shop Arkwrights, is the perfect choice. To make it even more special only 77 bottles have been released.

It has been created by master blender Richard Paterson and it includes single malts from 1868 with the youngest malt being from 1951. The whisky itself tastes of ginger cake, spiced toffee, butterscotch, roasted coffee and thick cut marmalade - the hallmark of this classic malt.

This fabulous present can be purchased from the Cotswolds based boutique whisky shop, Arkwrights. The owners Ken and Fran Thomas have been running the shop for 15 years and are on hand to offer the best advice from what whisky to serve with what sort of food to cocktail recipes. They also deliver all over the world from London to Taiwan.

Chivas Regal continue to push the luxury boundaries, showing their competitors how it’s done. Chivas Regal is the No 1 luxury Scotch whisky in China and the No 1 ultra-premium Scotch whisky in the world.

The latest offering from Chivas Regal is the release of two short films based around four modern males and their friendship.

image

Enlisting Academy Award® winning short filmmaker Joachim Back, Chivas Regal will release the two films on Chivas.com. Back brings his trademark comic sensibility to celebrate real friends and the stories that bind them forever.

The films are engaging and current, laced with humour and filmed beautifully. Just watch the trailer, I guarantee you will be hooked!

The first ‘Here’s to Big Bear’ premieres on 31st October 2011. The film follows the four friends Joe, Sammy, Nicolas and Emilio as they find themselves stranded at a train station in the middle of nowhere after getting off at the wrong stop.

image

Chivas Regal Brand Director James Slack commented: “The escapades of these four guys are re-lived and retold in a way that we can all relate to. From the comforting retrospective of the future, it’s great to look back on the good times and the bad times with your best friends. If it’s over a glass of Chivas, all the better.”

The second film, ‘Here’s to Twinkle’, recounts the time when the friends came together to support Sammy during a bad break-up.

Chivas Regal hopes the films will resonate with “a new breed of gentleman enjoying close-knit friendships with his loyal male friends,”

So, I guess I will see you over at Chivas.com on the 31st?!
