A bit like buses, you get one whisky to try and then you get another following close behind! Will I make it out of the office today after sampling my second tipple of the day…..?

This one from Singleton is an acquired taste and packs a real punch in the flavour stakes. Must be the peaty slightly acidic water from the Spey valley…
According to Singleton this particular malt has a number of features that should make it contender for Santa’s midnight tipple!

It being a bit nippy day today I was delighted to try a Talisker tipple. Oh boy did it warm the cockles of my heart….

If you’re leaving a nip for Santa or sipping a dram by the fire - whisky seems to have some intrinsic Christmas qualities.
For the lead up to Christmas Talisker whisky have created a new luxury limited edition Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) Christmas gift pack, proceeds of which will go towards helping the charity save lives at sea. I have to say that this is a charity that is close to my heart and in the name of giving Santa his traditional winter warmer I shall be making a purchase.

I am not entirely sure what sets apart a £10,000 ($16,000) whisky from a £40 ($64) a bottle whisky. Will the price tag make that much difference to quality? Greater and more experienced minds than mine will debate that one.

Dalmore reckon:
“The international market for high-end luxury products which have an investment value is buoyant - and the finest whiskies are playing an increasingly dominant role in this sector,” says The Dalmore’s Brand Director, David Robertson.
So maybe it’s investment value rather than a value expressed on flavour alone?
Given that only 12 decanters of the Sirius expression from Dalmore will be produced - I guess there is scarcity factor which adds to the £10,000 price tag. Sirius will only be available to private buyers and through a limited network of World Duty Free (WDF) stores.

The most exclusive Grande Champagne Cognac in the world, Louis XIII, has created a brand new coffret for 2009 which has been specifically designed to display its elegant beauty to the world.
The beautiful coffret was inspired by the Art Deco movement and features hand-crafted red imitation leather and a dark wood case with a multifaceted mirror inside. It is designed to slide open and reveal the baroque crystal decanter inside, reflecting the amber spirit and the iconic fleur-de-lys stopper presenting the Cognac in all its glory! Guests to your home would cast envious eyes upon it!

Cristal has long laid claim to the tags of most exclusive, highest quality etc. A little unjustly in my view.

However there is a new kid on the block. Recently launched Angel Champagne is currently only available on order online and is not planned for general retail release. Limited supplies are intended for select venues. A bottle of Angel Champagne can come in a silver presentation box with your own signature (Mariah Carey did this apparently, but I’m not sure if that’s a ringing endorsement in itself) - nonetheless could be a nice touch for a gift.
Some more tit bits of info about Angel:
