We spent the crisp winter morning working up an appetite for Sunday lunch at the highly acclaimed Alimentum restaurant; wandering the streets of Cambridge, crossing Jesus Green and Midsummer Common, and watching the punts appear from the mists of the River Cam. My partner and I were full of romance and history, and ready for the fine dining promised by Alimentum’s three AA rosettes.

On a noisy industrial road and with no parking provided, the start wasn’t promising. Don’t look for Alimentum in the picturesque streets of Cambridge city centre, or on the romantic banks of the River Cam. Head out of the city centre, down the Hills Road, and look for the multiplex and Travelodge. In the row of shops and takeaway chicken joints opposite lies the unassuming exterior of the Alimentum. Blink and you may miss it.
We arrived on a Sunday lunchtime to a near-empty restaurant, so excellent scope for attentive service. The barman assured us the restaurant would fill up later, so we took our opportunity to relax in the bar area with a pre-lunch cocktail before the well-heeled hordes arrived.

The Antique Wine Company and British design house Linley are furthering their collaboration to create the ultimate collector’s item – The “Helix” design case, which exactly matches the interior details of the Linley limited edition of Bentley Continental Flying Spur recently launched in Beijing China. Just fifty of the Santos rosewood boxes will be produced, each featuring a commemorative numbered plaque and co-branded Linley / Antique Wine Company. The wine collection is displayed through a toughened glass top with a polished nickel stringing around the frame.

The Jacquart Brut Nominée NV is a multi award winning Champagne, the latest being ‘Drinks Business Prestige category winner Gold award’. A 50% split between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes gives this a perfect balance.
Brand Champagne Jacquart was established in Reims in an 18th century mansion. The back story to the brand is both interesting and relevant. In 1962, 600 growers came together to create a more reputable Champagne house.
I think their aim has been realised. On tasting their prestige cuvee, the quality of Jacquart Brut Nominée NV could never be in doubt. The reputation for this is enhanced further by the regular awards this fine Champagne is in a habit of winning. A very impressive high end Champagne.

With a deep yellow colour, you are sure this will be packed with flavour and richness. Citrus and herbs are a nice subtle balance to the freshness. The blend has a high proportion of reserve wines from the 1996 vintage and there is some savoury depth here, which makes this the best Champagne for Christmas morning.
I can’t think of a better way than starting off Christmas morning with a premium Champagne, and I think the Jacquart Brut Nominée will suit as well as being a good choice for throughout the day.
Where can I buy Jacquart Brut Nominée? Currently this is available at Harrods online, reduced to £50.00 from standard £60.00.
Make sure you can open a really special present on Christmas day morning, invest in the best Champagne for Christmas morning, Jacquart Brut Nominée.
Nestled in the heart of West Sussex (and not a million miles from Gatwick Airport) you’ll discover this hidden treasure of a hotel. Comparable to the likes of Chewton Glenn and Penny Hill Park, Alexander House Hotel & Spa is beautiful both inside and out. It has a full spa facility, opulence comes to mind with unique lighting, hydrotherapy pool, steam and saunas and treatment rooms.

We recently reviewed Alexander House and feel privileged to have done so as it now scores up there with our top 5 reviews of all time (and we’ve done a few!). Our room was called Copper Beeches and was decorated with Autumnal colours in mind. A huge comfortable bed with the finest Egyptian cotton sheets, a flat screen TV, condiments, sofa, views of the outdoor Jacuzzi and a bottle of Champagne to top it all off. The design aspect is contemporary and has clearly been heavily invested in.
