It is hard to believe that the Northey was once the “Box Station Hotel,” ‘a dusty, dreary drinking house’… as today, it is a contemporary, welcoming and warm venue. It has recently been redesigned by its owner Sally Warburton – who has done a fantastic job in re-energising the Northey and bringing it into the 21st century. The result of all this hard work is an stunning 5 star Inn!

The look, location and the feel
Firstly, the location is fantastic. It is only a short care journey from The Northey to the wonderful town of bath, where you can take in thousands of years of history and enjoy some great restaurants. Not knowing the area very well, we asked for directions to bath at the bar, and we were accurately directed to the best place to park. There is also accessibility by buses or taxis to the centre of Bath.
Heading inside The Northey has a homely and elegant feel. Its combination of dark words and plush furnishings, results in a look that is charming, dark and atmospheric.
I should also add - throughout our stay, my guest and I, both felt at ease and looked after, as the staff were accommodating and helpful throughout. It really was a very relaxed and welcoming environment – making us feel at home for the entire stay.
The Room
The room was stylish, cosy and had a great feeling of warmth. Addiontally, the bed was really comfortable – it was one of the best nights sleep I have had for months! The room also had a handy coffee machine, complete with instant coffee and tea-pods.
Prices at the weekend start at a very reasonable £125 per night (Friday-Saturday) and are as low as £89 during the rest of the week – making The Northey brilliant value! Prices also include a good selection of cooked and cold breakfasts.
We were really impressed by the bathroom! Hidden within what looked like cupboard doors, was a spacious, modern and stylish bathroom. To be honest, weren’t expecting it and my partner likened the surprise to opening the doors to Narnia. Complete with a walk-in rainfall shower and make up area, the bathroom ticked all the boxes and more! Top-drawer!

Dining
Dining at the Northey is also a pleasure; the Inn has a large and open dining space, which was beautifully candle lit, making for an especially pleasant atmosphere. To start my partner made a fantastic choice with the locally caught mussels. They were cooked mariniere style and the sauce was extremely rich and flavoursome. For the main course we both opted for the some of the fine local steaks on offer – they were beautifully tender and a great value cut of meat for the price.
Overall I would love to stay at The Northey again – it was a very comfortable and enjoyable experience - one that I have already told my friends and family about.
Additional info: The Northey is a part of the OHH Company – a small chain of fabulous British locations. The other two locations are The Crown and The old house at home. I have also heard that The Northey is now becoming ever more popular as a venue for holding special occasions such as wedding receptions, christening parties and birthday parties.
