The words ‘local’ and ‘luxury’ are rarely uttered within the same breathe outside an SW1 postcode until it seems now. The suburbs of South West London have smartened up. Venture into Wandsworth these days and you’ll find yummy mummys lining up outside gorgeous boutiques, picking up organic groceries then lunching at chic cafes. This is the land that gastro pub The Bowler inhabits.

Winteringham Fields set in Winteringham, North Lincolnshire is a luxury restaurant (with rooms). The reputation for both service and expert cuisine is quite staggering.

image

Standards have been set high at this luxuriously appointed 16th century manor house and the award winning restaurant seem determined to retain this professional formula. Discreet and unstated service from knowledgeable and attentive staff and, of course, a range of superb dishes to satisfy the most demanding palate

Billed as a restaurant with rooms, Winteringham Fields has a wonderful choice of beautiful, luxury bedroom suites.

While the accommodation is limited but divine, what happens in the restaurant (or rather, the kitchen) really interests me.

Winteringham Fields has been on the culinary map for many years, and in the hands of owner and chef patron Colin McGurran, continues to thrive with a focus on modern French cuisine.

Now, Winteringham Fields is opening up the kitchen for an experience like no other.

Colin is delighted to present the opportunity to work for a day in the kitchens as part of his team. The day includes the morning kitchen prep and tutorial right through to the end of lunch service. Colin will give you private tuition in the areas of specific food preparation, butchery and cooking you are most interested in.

You are then invited to spend the afternoon relaxing in your choice of any of the beautiful bedroom suites before enjoying Winteringham Field’s world renowned Menu Surprise and Sommelier’s wine selection in the evening.

Winteringham Fields will also provide you with a kitchen goodie bag which includes an apron, menus and much more for you to enjoy. The experience is priced at £595 for an individual, who may invite a friend or partner to dine with them in the evening or £695 for a couple. A most perfect of gift experiences for couples .

When a girlfriend calls with a crisis there is only one cure. Cocktails and food. Often followed by more cocktails…

Our choice of venue:  Hush. A cool new uber trendy Mayfair bar and restaurant noted for its fabulous cocktail menu and even more fabulous cuisine. Step inside and you’ll find yourself rubbing shoulders with a heady mix of city slickers and stunning fashionistas. Fresh from the office and straight off the catwalk they stumble in thirsty for a great night out. We started upstairs on mix of martinis and daiquiris decorated with real flowers and fresh fruit, simply gorgeous.

Sitting on leather stools sipping our Brazilian ‘Salto emotions’ the world suddenly seemed a rosier, kinder place. The night got even better when we were called to dinner downstairs and seated in their sparkling white dining room that served up delights that included lobster spaghetti, hand cut chips dipped in homemade mayonnaise and whole roasted sea bream. With 70 wines available by the glass we decided to keep it simple and opted for a crisp glass of Pinot Grigio and lots of sparkling water! What at first seemed a mountain/-challenging amount of food seemed to ease with the course of the evening. It all went, we cleaned out plates, mended our wounded hearts and declared Hush a success. Not that it needs our vote, the place was brimming with customers all falling out smug and satisfied into the west end air. Now I know why it’s called Hush, this place is so fantastic you just want to keep it secret…

Set along the banks of the River Thames and just 5 minutes from Heathrow Airport and historic (in the opposite direction), The Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel is a newly refurbished 4* hotel with a lot to offer.

The hotel has recently undergone a £20m refurbishment, which has brought it bang up to date and looking… well… rather glamorous. The refurbishment has altered the look and feel of the original hotel dramatically, providing for a cool, contemporary place for weddings, wellbeing spa treatments, business meetings or affordable stop overs with great access to London and surrounds.

The hotel consists 2 restaurants, an outdoor pool, a spa, tennis courts, plenty of meeting spaces and 180 guest rooms.
