Admiring actresses draped in luxury bling at the Oscar’s kind of obscures the fact that much of the jewelry on display is on loan.

image

If you want to do the same without breaking the bank, help is at hand. Bentley Skinner based in London’s Bond Street offer to loan pieces from their extensive jewlry collection for just one per cent of the purchase price per day.

That effectively means that for one night only, a £30,000 ($60,000) Victorian diamond necklace could be yours for £295 ($600). I imagine the item turns into a pumpkin if you don’t return it before midnight!

Bentley and Skinner say the service is popular “with brides who often hire tiara’s for their special day”.  Alternatively, if you are a bona fide a-lister, Bentley and Skinner can accessorise you for events like the Oscars, BAFTAs or Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball.

The only catch and it’s a big one, is that Bentley and Skinner require that the whole cost of the item is paid for on the day of hire - with it returned, minus hire fee when the jewels are safely returned to their vault. So not so much a pumpkin, more of a hole in your bank balance…

The London based Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is thought to be investing £150 million ($296 million) in a UK residence that would make it the most expensive in that country.

The most expensive home in the UK will be located in Knightsbridge and will include eight floors, a cinema, swimming pool, steam room and lots of other luxury goodies

Updown Court was a previous contender for the most expensive home in the UK. Will Mr Abramovich’s Lowndes Square property match up? Time will tell….

Feisty pop group, Girls Aloud made a fast £125,000 ($250,000) for a 1 hour performance at British Billionaire, Eddie Healey’s 70th birthday party.

By all accounts, Mr Healey went to town with the rest of his bash by spending a further £300,000 ($600,000) on hiring a ballroom and entertaining 300 guests at London’s Dorchester Hotel.

Having won X-factor and now taken the US by storm, Leona Lewis has edged herself into the list of Britain’s richest young people according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

image

Her meteoric rise is estimated to have given her a £6 million ($12 million) fortune which would easily make her the most successful and wealthiest X-Factor winner so far. Not bad for someone whose only 23.

Her other achievements include first solo artist to have a debut album top the US charts, and she recorded the highest selling UK single in 2007 with Bleeding Love.
