Hotel Maiyango – Luxury Boutique Hotel In Leicester

When people think of Leicester they probably think of (well I do) the cheese or Leicester Tigers the all conquering rugby team, well you can now add Hotel Maiyango to that list. Close to city centre, the Luxury boutique hotel in Leicester, Hotel Maiyango is an oasis of charm.

The floor plan of the building in which the hotel resides means the reception is on the top floor however this allows them to have a fantastic rooftop bar. Stylish and contemporary, the rooftop bar is an ideal spot to enjoy a drink and watch the world go by.

The interior of the hotel continues into the rooms, well sized and furnished with bespoke furniture. The unique style theme of the hotel was a ceiling painted in the same colour of the walls, and it was one of the first things that we noticed. We later found out it was something of a feature that the Maiyango brand continues through many of their incarnations, including their new deli round the corner from the hotel.

It turns out that the hotel was the brainchild of a group of friends from Leicester and the owner used to go to school literally across the road from the hotel. Out of interest he now uses that old school building as a conference centre, as part of the Maiyango dominance of that area of Leicester. Local boy done good certainly rings true here.

What the Luxury boutique hotel in Leicester Hotel Maiyango offers which many boutique hotels do not is the opportunity to learn and experience the art of cocktail making. Popular with hen parties, our tutor Head barman Pete who not only makes the best Mojito this side of Havana, was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of cocktail making, a true asset to Maiyango.

We had the opportunity to make three cocktails each, complimenting or challenging our pre-conceived taste likes. Pete was a fantastic host, making the two hour session great fun, educational and inspirational. Prices for the cocktail making session start at £25 per person and includes three cocktails.

After our cocktail making session, we were seated in one of the unique round tables which offered great privacy for a group up to six. We had the style taster menu for dinner which consisted of many courses all made from fresh local and seasonal produce. All courses were notable, but in my opinion the stand out course was the trio of pork served with mash and balsamic jus. This was not only in my opinion cooked to perfection but also as light as they come, which when having a tasting menu is just what is required. We finished up with a chocolate fondant which, being a chocolate lover, was the perfect end to a well balanced meal. The service throughout was superb, the wine suggested worked well with the tasting menu and the time between courses was perfect.

After dinner we enjoyed an aperitif and cup of tea in the roof top bar in the main hotel, believe me after that dinner this was a necessity rather than a desire! En route to the bar we had a quick walk around some of the livelier areas of Leicester, and if we were younger or less full, there were a good few bars that no doubt we would have frequented.

If you ever plan a nights stay for business or pleasure in Leicester then I would not look any further than Hotel Maiyango. Your entire stay at this Luxury boutique hotel in Leicester will be an experience you will never forget and from the moment you arrive to when you depart you`ll be made to feel special by the welcoming and friendly staff.
