Galgorm Resort and Spa review

If you would believe recent red top rags, Frank Lampard and Christine Bleakley are planning on using The Galgorm Resort and Spa as the location for their wedding.

When I stayed at The Galgorm, I could understand that this rumour could be true. Set in simply stunning surroundings, The Galgorm is a 4 star hotel in Northern Ireland that has stacks going for it.

4 Star?!!! A real injustice!

The actual hotel is a fine blend of traditional and modern. Some of the décor is inspired, I caught myself a few times gazing at different points of interest.

The gardens are `Rivendell` like, complete with the fast flowing river Maine and miles of enchanted walks.

I sat in a little corner of the lobby for a while and watched the comings and goings. There is a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere which you cannot help to soak up. The reception staff dealt with each and every query faultlessly and with a smile on their faces.

Half the battle.

The Spa is in another world. You travel down two floors from reception to reach the spa. It’s a dimly lit haven of calm, the smell of oils hits you as the lift doors open.

My Fiancee had two treatments. A full body hot lava shell massage (sublime, apparently) and a seriously impressive manicure. It has been voted 2nd best Spa in the world for very good reason.

I left her to it and went to explore the rest of the hotel and the grounds.

And what joy! I found Gillies! (Regional Pub of the year 2010 and Most Stylish Bar In Northern Ireland 2010) Gillies is a pub / restaurant within The Galgorm.

What a result! Fiancee and Fiance in bliss!

Gillies deserves all its awards. The bar is fab, the weekend atmosphere fun and friendly. With Live music, Gillies comes alive. It was packed, a good measure of success.

We ate in Gillies and the Sirloin is to be recommended. Best Steak in Northern Ireland? In the summer months, Gillies opens up its beer garden for BBQs and outdoor dining.

After dinner, we ventured up to the lobby bar, where we were in for a fine treat. The staff at The Galgorm were all excellent, but you always manage to find one that outshines the rest. Jamie, the cocktail waiter in the lobby bar, was excellent. He served up some of the best cocktails I have tasted. Simply genius…and looking like a young Antonio Banderas, Jamie made quite an impression on my Fiancee!

In short, I loved this hotel.

35 minutes from Belfast, The Galgorm Resort And Spa is quite possibly Northern Ireland`s best Hotel. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, modern and quiet.

As a wedding location, The Galgorm ticks every box. Frank and Christine may or may not be celebrating their wedding here, but my Fiancee insisted I come away with some wedding info.

And why not? Galgorm and Gillies are just a wonderful place to visit, whatever the occasion.
